OUR VISION

 

​Wee Poets' vision is to develop self-esteem in at-risk, low-income youth has paid off. Many youngsters have received awards for creative writing, have had their work published in books and magazines, have appeared on other TV and radio programs and starred in TV commercials.

OUR GOALS

 

​WEE POETS’ goals are to increase the number of children participating in WEE POETS in the TV studio and at after-school programs in the San Francisco Bay Area; market more WEE POETS videotapes to schools, libraries, recreation centers, health clinics, community businesses, and the internet.

OUR SUCCESSES

​

​In 1986, Wee Poets was invited to the White House in Washington D.C. to receive its' first $10,000 Kool Achiever Award. In 1993, WEE POETS was invited to and went to Runaway Bay, Jamaica and videotaped WEE POETS in school classrooms. In 1995, WEE POETS participated in a foreign exchange, homestay program, which resulted in a trip to Paris, France. The host, the director and 15 Berkeley High School students stayed with French families, developed their language skills, and produced WEE POETS in Paris. In 2005, Adnan Touma received a Heroes in Education Award which was given to him by the California Lottery. Mr. Jamie Farr, star the popular T.V. program M.A.S.H., presented the award to Adnan. Wee Poets recently celebrated its' 31st anniversary and looks forward to making a bigger impact amongst San Francisco Bay-Area youth.

OUR PARTNERS

Berkeley Community Media, Berkeley, donates studio time, equipment, hands-on production training and airing of programs. Comcast, Hayward, donates by the airing of programs. East Bay Community Media Center, Hayward, donates the airing of programs.
